Feeding instructions for puppy.Make sure the puppy is eating aggressively. If not give 1 full syringe (1cc) of white corn
syrup every 12 hours for first 3 days until you are sure that the puppy is eating aggressively.
Feed up to ¼ cu of food 2 times per day. If puppy finishes all the food, you can give him/her more. Don’t be surprised
though if puppy does not finish all the food. Since they are so small they don’t really eat very much. Do not go more
than 12 hours without offering the pup food. The pup must eat something at least every 12 hours until the pup is at least
6 months old. It is preferred that the pup eat 2x per day throughout life of the dog. If the pup does not reach 5 pounds you
will need to continue with feeding 2x per day. If the pup does not eat in over 12 hours there is the chance that the pup could
go into sugar shock (Hypoglycemia). This can cause seizures and permanent damage. EVEN DEATH! Sugar shock is caused because
the pup has a very small body and can not store enough calories to last more than 12 hours. When a pup runs out of reserve
sugar that it has stored, it is similar to a diabetic who has gone into shock. The pup must be given 1 cc of either white
corn syrup or honey immediately and then taken to the vet right away.
Some of the signs of sugar shock can be, wobbling like drunk and listlessness. Of course these could also be because the
pup just got up or is ready to go to bed. That is why you really have to monitor the food intake so that you know. In extreme
cases where the pup has gone into a seizure, the mouth and nose may foam, the jaw may lock shut and you may have to pry it
open to administer the corn syrup. If you get up from sleeping and find the pup lying down and unresponsive (not breathing
and no heart beat) with a wet mouth and nose, you may need to administer CPR. If you do remember that the pup is very very
small and that the breaths need to be very very small and the heart palpitations must be done very gently. If you give the
pup too large a breath you could rupture the lungs. If you push too hard on the sternum you could crack it or the ribs and
bruise the heart. Once pup responds immediately administer the corn syrup and take pup to the vet. When pup arrives from the
airport give him 1 full syringe of either white corn syrup. You need to do this because flying and entering a new home can
be very stressful for the puppy and the puppy may have burned up his stored sugar much faster than normal.
Days 1, 2, 3 AND 4
Feed pup only the food that was sent to you. Start with ¼ cup in the morning and ¼ cup in the evening. Do not be surprised
